Mehndi Decoration Ideas: Colour Palettes, Swings and Seating
Ideas · 03 Sep 2026
The mehndi night is where colour is allowed to run wild. Here are practical ideas to design a mehndi that feels joyful, photographs well and keeps guests comfortable.
Choose a palette
Classic marigold and magenta is always vibrant. For something softer, try peach with sage, or mustard with dusty pink. If you love a modern look, combine pastel florals with brass lamps and neutral fabrics.
The stage and the swing
A jhoola covered in flowers is the centrepiece of many mehndi stages. Ensure the frame is sturdy and tested, and style it with hanging blooms and a backdrop of marigold curtains or paper flowers.
Seating for family
Floor seating with cushions, rugs and bolsters keeps the mood relaxed and brings guests close. Mix with a few lounge sofas for elders and add low tables for snacks and henna cones.
Lighting and fabric
String lights, lanterns and coloured uplights add atmosphere. Fabric canopies and parasols add colour overhead and soften harsh halls.
Photo corners
A small floral or mirror-work corner with good lighting gives family and friends a place for photographs without crowding the main stage.
Dance space
Plan a clear dance floor or lawn area with even lighting. Keep cables away from the dancing space and use sturdy stage steps.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best mehndi stage size?
It depends on the hall, but a stage around four to six metres wide works well for most mehndi events, with space in front for dancing.
